What is Alateen?

Alateen is a place where members come together to:

  • share experiences, strength, and hope with each other to find effective ways to cope with problems.

  • discuss difficulties and encourage one another

  • help each other understand the principles of the Al-Anon program through the use of the Twelve Steps and Alateen’s Twelve Traditions

Alateen is not a place:

  • For teenagers seeking help for drinking or drug problems or a therapy program

  • to complain about parents or anyone else.

  • A social hangout.

Training as an Alateen Sponsor

If you or someone you know is looking for an opportunity to begin the required training as an Alateen Sponsor, (AMIAS), the last session this year of Alateen Sponsor Training and Recovery (ASTAR) was scheduled for May 13, 2023. However, we especially need male AMIAS to chaperone young men. Training is about 3 hours on Zoom and it's easy. There is paperwork before you get trained, so contact me (below) or Julie L (Alateen@WhatcomAFG.org) if you are interested. Let either of us know if you have any questions about the training and the supporting material.
